About MediLectures

Medilectures is a new, innovative approach to e-learning pioneered at Imperial College London in 2004 and now being commissioned at other medical schools and Royal Colleges in the UK.

The idea is based on using experienced broadcast journalists to help medical consultants best present their content.

All too frequently students are required to digest lengthy on-line material that it is badly put together and of poor quality. Lecturers who use audio or video to deliver their presentations are invariably unfamiliar with the medium. Enter Medilectures: working hand-in-hand with the medical consultant our broadcast journalists record, edit and present professional on-line multimedia presentations.

Each Medilecture is based on an informal BBC styled radio interview, which is digitally edited into bite-sized audio tracks. The package is then ‘broadcast’ over the web together with simultaneous images and interactive diagrams. These are complemented with video clips and cutting-edge interactive multimedia revision tests. A “Print & Follow” sheet guides the students who also have MP3 download options so they can listen to the lectures when they are travelling.

Each Medilecture is wrapped in a single Flash presentation and is made available through the intranet and our password protected website.

Feedback from students and lecturers continues to be spectacular. Recent focus groups have highlighting in particular:

  • Medilectures high production standards
  • Our innovative Q & A interview technique
  • Our user-friendly interface
